Activities Update

All facilities are open and NVRC continues to provide a range of activities and programs in line with current provincial safety guidelines to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. Staff are reviewing safety guidelines as they become available and where possible within guidelines, NVRC continues to restart activities to help our community be active and creative.

Advance Registration

To enter a facility customers must book a visit in advance (applies to fitness centres sessions, swimming and skating) or be registered in a program. 

Face Masks

Customers are required to wear a face mask in all common areas in NVRC facilities, including lobbies, hallways and washrooms and programs and activities, including indoor fitness classes and programs, (with the exception of while playing sports  and on the field of play or on court). We recognize it’s not feasible to wear a mask in the pool. Read more on our health & safety page.

Updated Fitness Centre Mask Protocol – April 2021

Wearing a mask is now required at all times while exercising indoors by order of the Provincial Health Officer.  This includes while exercising on cardio equipment. In addition, participants are required to keep 3m away from each other when they are moving around in the fitness centre space.  

People who are unable to wear a mask due to a health condition or a physical, cognitive or mental impairment, and people who are unable to put on or remove a mask without the assistance of another person are exempt from mask requirements. People who are unable to wear a mask must maintain at least 3m distance at all times when in the facility.

Book a Visit

Fitness centres are open and public swim, lane swimming, master swim and public skate are available. All visits to a facility must be booked in advance. You can book a visit for these sessions from 9am on the Monday, one week before the session. When a statutory holiday falls on a Monday, registration for the following week is on Tuesdays. You can do this online or by calling 604-987-7529.

Can’t make your pre-booked visit?

Please remember to cancel so others can sign up for the spot.

We know plans can change. So if you are unable to attend your pre-booked visits for fitness centres, fitness classes, swimming and skating, we ask that you please cancel online as soon as you know you can’t attend.  This will free up your spot for others who want to get active.

You can cancel a visit online and we ask that you cancel as early as possible (at least 24 hours in advance) so we can provide the spot to someone on the waitlist. Visit the registration support page to watch a how-to cancel video.

New Fitness Centre Session No-Show Procedure

This new procedure has been implemented to maximize the number of spots for all community members to stay active.

Starting March 15, 2021, if you are registered for a fitness centre session and you don’t show up, or don’t cancel your spot at least one hour (60 minutes) before the start time, NVRC will consider this a No Show.

Once you have three no-show visits in a week, your account will be suspended online for one week and you will need to call to make any registrations.  Please note the following procedure:

  • If you don’t show up or cancel your spot at least one hour (60 minutes) before the start time of your fitness centre visit, we will email you and note the No Show on your account.
  • If, for a second time in the week, you don’t show up or cancel your spot at least one hour (60 minutes) before the start time, we will contact you by email and record the second No Show on your account.
  • If, for a third time, you don’t show up or cancel your spot at least one hour (60 minutes) before the start time, we will contact you by email, record the third No Show on your account, and suspend your online account for one week.

During the week that customers do not have access to their online account, all registrations will need to be made by calling our call centre at 604-987-7529.

Should a customer have their online account suspended for two weeks (not necessarily consecutively) and then no-show three times in one week again, this will result in access to the fitness centre being revoked for one week and no refund will be provided.

This does not change the rules regarding receiving a refund when cancelling a visit, 3 days notice is still required to receive a refund.

Can I drop-in?

Currently drop-ins are not possible, this includes fitness centre sessions, group fitness classes, lane swimming, public swim and public skate. To attend customers can book a visit in advance, either online or at 604-987-7529.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Customers are required to wear a face mask in all common areas in NVRC facilities.  This includes lobbies, hallways and washrooms and some programs and activities. Customers are also encouraged to wear masks during their program or activity. We recognize it’s not feasible to wear a mask in the pool and with most fitness activities that require exertion.

People who cannot wear a mask or who cannot put on or remove a mask without the assistance of others are exempt. A person may not be able to wear a mask for a psychological, behavioural or health condition, or due to a physical, cognitive or mental impairment. Children 2-12 years are encouraged, but not required, to wear a mask.

NVRC has disposable masks for sale at our front desks for $1 each.

What if a visit or a program class is cancelled?

If a visit has to be cancelled by NVRC customers who paid for the visit will be refunded. If a class or classes which were part of a program are cancelled by NVRC a pro-rated refund will be provided. 

Can I use my fitness membership?

Yes, fitness memberships are valid for fitness centre sessions, fitness classes (when operating), public swim, lane swimming and public skate. These visits must be booked in advance and are subject to availability.

What is your policy for refunds?

Fitness Centre Sessions, Individual Fitness Classes and Public Sessions

These activities are now termed 'visits', previously these were 'drop-ins'. NVRC is not currently offering drop-ins. Clients receive a full refund with two full days notice (please note the day you cancel and the day of the program are not included in the two days notice). Examples include fitness centre sessions, individual fitness classes (not part of a program), lane swimming, public swim and public skate. 


Our standard refund policy applies with the following temporary exception during the COVID-19 pandemic: If you are not able to attend the program due to sickness, as long as you cancel prior to the start of the class, a full refund will be provided. Please contact NVRC at 604-987-7529 before the start of the class so another community member can take part.

If the class is cancelled NVRC will contact you one hour prior to the class. Please ensure your account has a phone number you can be reached at. Call NVRC at 604 987 7529 to update your details.

Are steam rooms and saunas open?

Not currently. These amenities are closed.
