North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is offering activities in partially re-opened facilities.  Staff have implemented health and safety measures to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 among community members and employees. 

Program & Activity Suspensions

On Thursday, December 3, the Provincial Health Officer announced new COVID-19 restrictions for the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions.

In response to the orders, NVRC is suspending the following programs and sessions until further notice.  Please note, this is subject to change.  All program participants will be notified by email and refunds will be provided. 

Aquafit (will resume Jan 7, 2021 Netball
Adult dance classes

Pickleball adult lessons for more than two people and doubles play are suspended

Pickleball lessons for adults, less than 3 people only, are being planned. Check back for updates

High activity fitness classes

Some room rentals

Masters Swim (recommences Jan 18, with registration restarting Jan 11) Youth centres
Badminton (including adult lessons for more than two people and doubles play are suspended)

Tennis lessons for adults with more than two people

Court bookings for more than two people

Doubles play

Basketball (lessons are still running)

Trail Trekkers

Health management classes e.g. Chronic Health Conditions Management Volleyball

There are still many programs and activities continuing to run with appropriate safety protocols and physical distancing in place, including but not limited to:

Low intensity fitness classes Woodworking
Arts programs Music lessons and programs (not singing)

Badminton lessons for adults (less than 3 people only)

Parent & tot programs (those that are instructor led)
U19 Badminton Lessons – @ 3m physical distancing and max 4 persons per court only Pottery studios - classes and booked visits

Home alone and babysitter training Tennis - adult tennis league 4.0 - singles

Mask Requirements

Customers are required to wear a face mask in all common areas in NVRC facilities, including lobbies, hallways and washrooms and some programs and activities. Customers are also encouraged to wear masks during their program or activity. We recognize it’s not feasible to wear a mask in the pool and with most fitness activities that require exertion. Visiting an NVRC Recreation Centre

Only customers with registrations for programs or who have booked a visit (e.g. fitness centre sessions, public swim, lane swimming, public skate and pottery studio sessions) are able to enter facilities.

Fitness Centres

Swimming Pools

All NVRC pools are now open. Find out more details here.


Public skates at Harry Jerome and Karen Magnussen are now available and skating lessons are available. View available lessons.

Pottery Studios

The pottery studios at Parkgate Community Centre and Delbrook Community Recreation Centre are partially open.

Studio time is available to customers who have experience in the studio and have held a membership in 2020. These registrations are being done by phone to allow NVRC staff to confirm customers’ studio experience. Read more on our pottery page.

North Vancouver Tennis Centre

The North Vancouver Tennis Centre is now open. Adult and junior tennis programs are now available for registration and court bookings are available. Read more on the tennis programs page.

Programs provided by other organizations

Programs provided by North Shore Neighbourhood House at the John Braithwaite Community Centre are cancelled.  For information, visit their website at www.nsnh.bc.ca.

Programs and childcare services provided by Parkgate Community Services Society at Parkgate Community Centre are cancelled.  For information, visit their website at www.myparkgate.com.

The playgrounds at Parkgate Community Centre, Lynn Valley Community Recreation Centre, Delbrook Community Recreation Centre, Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre and Memorial Recreation Centre are open. 

Users should follow public health guidelines including maintaining a two metre physical distance and washing or sanitizing hands before and after use. While the playground equipment will be inspected prior to opening, it will not be sanitized.
