Registration

It’s coming.  The first day of registration and across North Vancouver parents are getting prepared to register their kids. It can be stressful.

Imagine.  Eight year old Sarah just has to get into the dance program she loves and her little brother Josh is due to take his next level of swimming lessons.  And you need to register for the programs that have the right days and times that fit in with your complex family schedule!  Yikes!  That’s a lot of pressure.

We know what you’re going through.  That’s why we’ve developed these 5 simple tips to help you get through the first day of registration stress-free:

#1.  Get Prepared

Read the leisure guide (paper or online) or search our website and select the programs you want to register in. The day before registration, make sure that you have an account with NVRC set up and that you have all of your information:

  1. Email and password
  2. Course ID numbers
  3. Credit card number

Don’t have an NVRC account?  Click here now to set up your account.

Special Tip: You can put a credit on your account the day before registration so when you register you do not have to go through the payment processing step, the computer will just take the course fee amount from your credit balance (make sure you put enough dollars on the account to cover the cost of all the programs you want to register for).

#2.  Make a Back Up Plan

Have a list of back-up programs in case the one that you want is full and you have to waitlist.

#3.  Choose the method for registration that works for you

Would you rather register while comfortable at home on your computer in your pajamas? Or do you prefer the personal touch and dealing with a live person face to face?  We offer three ways to register:

  1. In Person at any Community Recreation Centre starting at 7:00am on the first day of registration and then during regular front desk hours after that
  2. By Phone by calling 604-987-Play (7529) and speaking to one of our customer service staff
  3. Online through our website at nvrc.ca.

#4.  Be patient

With thousands of parents trying to register their kids at the 7:00am start time of registration on the first day, know that the online system and phones can be busy.  Fortunately we have extra staff in our Call Centre to answer your calls and our computer staff are on deck to ensure our registration systems run smoothly.

And remember you can always go to a Community Recreation Centre in person where the line ups are short!

#5.  Congratulate yourself

Give yourself a pat on the back for all the times you go the extra mile for your kids and your family,  like getting up at 6:30am to register them in their favourite recreation and culture programs. And for all the times you juggle your family’s schedule to get them to their programs – way to go!  You rock as a parent and your active kids really benefit from all you do.  And if you’re not a parent, congratulate yourself for pursuing your own health and wellness, creativity and hobbies.  You’re worth it.

BONUS TIP

Remember only a few of our program areas fill up quickly (Saturday Swim Lessons; certain dance programs, tennis).  We have thousands of registered programs for all ages in a range of recreation and culture pursuits.

If you know that the program you would like to register for is not a class that fills up quickly, wait until later in the day to call or register online.  You will get through quicker at a later time.
