For anyone who wants to be active and thrifty, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture (NVRC)  together with our partners Parkgate Community Services Society (PCSS) and North Shore Neighbourhood House (NSNH) are proud to offer some great free and low cost activities.  No matter your age or interests, check out these opportunities that won’t make a big dent in your wallet:

For Adults
What appeals to you?  Try $1 Aerobics, $2 Fitness & Swim or $3 Volleyball.  Or give Pickleball— a cool combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong—a shot for just $3!  If you only have an hour to spare, check out Noon Hour Badminton or Noon Hour Co-Ed Indoor Soccer.  There are lots of exciting choices for adults at NVRC. View our Schedules for more information.

For New Parents
Be sure to visit to one of the many free or inexpensive Early Years drop-ins and programs.  NVRC, PCSS & NSNH  offer Parent Education Workshops, Open Gym sessions, Art Participation Drop-ins, Storytime with the City Librarian, Dad’s Night Out and more. These are great opportunities for new parents to have fun, meet other caregivers and gain some new skills. View our Leisure Guide for more information.

For Families
Of course, there are also low cost ideas to keep the whole family happy.  In addition to Open Gym Drop-ins, all NVRC arenas and pools offer $2 public skate or $2 public swim.  You can’t beat that!  Kids and parents can have a blast on the ice or in the water at various times throughout the week.  Just check the Community Centre schedules and plan your day.

For School Aged and Youth
Tailored to School Aged and Pre-teens, NVRC, PCSS and NSNH also offer Youth and Sports Drop-ins and Kids’ Night Out programs.  These are popular and economical programs for kids who want to connect with others their age.   Youth 12-18 years are also invited to drop-in to various Youth Centres across North Vancouver for a variety of free activities, like pool and board games.  These places provide a relaxed environment supervised by experienced Youth workers.

For Seniors
$2 Movies, Social Bridge, Mahjong, Knitting… and many, many more.  NVRC, PCSS and NSNH are proud to offer a wide variety of free or low-cost programs for interested seniors.  Enjoy your favourite pastime, earn something new or just enjoy stimulating activities in the company of others.  View our Seniors page or view our Leisure Guide.

It’s easy to be active on the North Shore without breaking the bank!  Visit North Vancouver Recreation and Culture’s Free and Low Cost page to learn more about these great programs and activities.

NVRC also offers a Financial Access program for residents of North Vancouver who cannot afford the full fee to participate in recreation and culture programs.  Visit our Financial Assistance page.
