A.J Brown - Disability and Art

We wish to inform you about our next Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN) session. DCCN is a monthly communication and information group for people of all ages (16+) with any disability. This group is supported by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre.

The next group is April 18th from 4-6 pm. The session will now be held at The North Shore Disability Resource Centre 3158 Mountain Highway. North Shore Disability Resource Centre is an accessible space, please let us know of any other accessibility requirements you might have in advance of the meeting.

A.J. Brown is a Deaf self-taught artist. She mostly works within watercolour, ink, and other mediums. Creating is A.J.’s way to express her soul-voice in a way to which others can hear and respond. Art is A.J. Brown’s way to freedom, and spirituality. Since 2002, her work has been exhibited in several galleries, including: the CityScape Art Space, the Artists Helping Artists in Burnaby, and a Deaf art show at the Vancouver Community College.

Heather Korlak is a Teacher and Expressive Arts Therapist. As an Expressive Arts Therapist, she works primarily with children to explore their imagination and express their ideas. Heather has worked with varying levels of disability and experience. She believes strongly that all people, no matter age or abilities, benefit from the power of expression and art. Currently, Heather is teaching Art at an Independent School and has a private Expressive Arts Therapy practice. Heather Korlak will help us run a short art session.

ASL Interpretation and light refreshments provided! Please let us know of any accommodations and dietary needs you require.
