Natural fabric dyes

These theory and project-based sessions will introduce participants to the magical world of dyeing with natural dyestuffs (plants, bugs, minerals and food waste). The emphasis will be on learning everything you need to know to continue an exploration of natural dyes at home, including mordanting, preparing dyebath, and dyeing with fabric.

Intro to Natural Fabric Dyeing

This is the first session in a 3-session series. The first session is a theory session; it is an introduction to the magical world of natural fabric dyeing! Natural dyes like plants, bugs, minerals and food waste are explored. You will learn everything you need to know about using natural dyes at home! Visual presentation will accompany the session and each participant will receive a list of natural dying agents, an equipment list and instructions on how to naturally dye fabrics at home. This session can be paired with the hands-on workshops, or taken on its own. This series runs Jan 29, 31 and Feb 1--please register for each session individually.

Core Skills for Natural Dyeing

This is the 2nd session in the 3 session series. This workshop is for those who wish to develop their curiosity and creativity and participate in hands-on projects using natural fabric dyeing techniques. You will learn and experiment with achieving various colours with food waste--fabric samples are included, however, we encourage you to bring an upcycled garment or fabric you'd like to dye. Please dress for mess, or bring an apron! This session can be paired with the theory and or workshop session or taken on its own.  This series runs Jan 29, 31 and Feb 1--please register for each session individually.

Bundle Dyeing and Eco-Printing

This is the 3rd session in a 3 session series. In this session, you will a general overview of natural fabric dyeing will be presented. You will explore how to create a pattern or print on fabric with flowers and plants. Exploration of different mordants and modifiers will help you make a variety of effects on the fabric and dyeing process. Fabric pieces are included. Please dress for mess, or bring an apron! This workshop can be paired with other workshops in the series or taken on its own.  This series runs Jan 29, 31 and Feb 1--please register for each session individually.
