At the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre, people of all ages, interests and abilities will have countless opportunities to be active, creative, learn something new, celebrate and connect with others.
Every visit will offer something new to experience, learn and enjoy, including:
- Fitness: personal and small group training; classes such as spin, yoga, Pilates, barre; circuit training; joint rehab; fitness centre access
- Aquatics: lessons; lane swimming; aquafit; masters swim; lifeguard/instructor training; public swims
- Sport: registered and drop-in programs in basketball, pickleball, volleyball, badminton, indoor soccer; all ages learn-to programs; open gym sessions
- Youth: drop-in youth centre; programs; youth nights; events
- Arena: lessons; public skate sessions; dry floor programming
- Arts: visual arts; dance; music; hand-building pottery
- Early years: licensed preschool; parent and tot programs; ‘on my own’ programs
- Camps: full-day camps; speciality camps (sport, cooking, skateboarding, art)
- Social programs: cards; games; cooking; babysitter and home alone courses
Fitness and movement programs such as tai chi, yoga, qi gong and Zumba will be offered in outdoor spaces. The fitness centre outdoor deck will host spin, TRX Suspension Training and other fitness classes.
The community kitchen will be home to cultural cooking nights, chef-led classes, children and youth learn-to-cook programs and meal prep/take home food programs. There are also purpose-built spaces for birthday parties, special events and training.
There will be a variety of free and low-cost options, along with financial assistance for those who experience financial barriers to participate. There will also be accessible programming such as adapted swimming lessons and camps with inclusion support workers.
Once the new centre opens, we'll offer try-its and drop-in activities. Regular programming will begin in September. Program offerings will be included in NVRC’s regular seasonal and book-a-visit registration processes.
