Clutch refers to a nest of eggs, and also something that is done in a crucial situation (a clutch hit).  Each birdhouse featured in this project, has been specifically designed in size and shape for the corresponding bird named on the support pole.  What many do not know is that each of the birds named is considered a species in decline.

By its nature, wildlife habitat is subtle. Life happens in hidden corners and dark holes.  Camouflage is a well documented survival strategy, and it is effective. It works so well that urban wildlife often goes unnoticed.  As a counterpoint, this project explores  “Conspicuous Habitat”, which is designed to highlight the habitat opportunities in the landscape around us. By being aware of the habitat opportunities in our urban environment we can understand how we might be impacting our local ecology.

This project provides species-specific habitat from the site’s sensitive Riparian Area and conspicuously brings it into the public realm.  It connects the community with the rich habitat of the region, and explores the diverse biology that exists in the neighbourhood.
