Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane )provides the ecological services of being both predator and prey, recycling nutrients to ensure new growth and regeneration. Subtractions from the fungi sculptures are modeled from the only remaining false front commercial building on Lonsdale Avenue. The engravings on the benches celebrate the social history of the corridor, derived from local overgrown tree carvings. These carvings act as an unofficial social history of the area, complementing and contrasting official narratives and signage. This sculpture has been constructed to invite people to sit and reflect on the social, cultural and ecological scales of time, destined to continue its metamorphosis.
