The North Vancouver Recreation Facility & Amenity Assessment was developed by the North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission in collaboration with the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver to provide a North Vancouver-wide overview of indoor and outdoor recreation infrastructure across both municipalities.
Endorsed by the North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission in April 2026, the findings confirm that North Vancouver is well-served, with high resident satisfaction, strong distribution of amenities and service levels that meet or exceed comparable municipalities.
At the same time, the assessment highlights growing pressures. As our population increases and participation in both casual and organized recreation continues to rise, many groups are experiencing challenges accessing the space and facilities they need. This feedback closely reflects what we have heard from community sports and recreation organizations about growing memberships and limited availability.
The assessment highlights ways to maximize community benefit by working together across municipalities, building partnerships, making better use of existing facilities, planning for upgrades and repairs, and collecting better data to make informed decisions. Recommendations on priorities for renewal or enhancement of recreation facilities and amenities can be determined after the municipalities’ Official Community Plan updates, and through the annual Financial Plan process.
The City and District’s investments in recreation facilities and amenities have established a strong North Vancouver recreation system that enhances community health, social connection and quality of life. The information gathered through the assessment process will support both municipalities in their future parks, recreation and facility planning and the implementation of their Official Community Plans.
