Earthquakes are common in BC. Around 4,000 are recorded in the province each year. While most of these earthquakes are too small to be felt, earthquakes strong enough to cause damage do happen.
Take the time to prepare. On October 16, 2025, at 10:16am, join thousands across the province for the annual Great BC ShakeOut earthquake drill DROP-COVER-HOLD ON so that you are prepared to respond quickly and safely when you feel shaking or receive an Earthquake Early Warning alert on your phone, TV, or radio. Sign up at shakeoutbc.ca.
Use the month of October to make and/or update your emergency plan and kit. Don’t know where to start? Visit North Shore Emergency Management for information on personal preparedness, at nsem.ca.
