People of all ages, interests and abilities will have countless opportunities to be active, creative, learn something new, celebrate and connect with others at this new centre. Every visit will offer something new to experience, learn and enjoy, including:

• Fitness: personal and small group training; classes such as spin, yoga, Pilates, barre; circuit training; joint rehab; fitness centre access
• Aquatics: lessons; lane swimming; aquafit; masters swim; lifeguard/instructor training; public swims
• Sport: registered and drop-in programs in basketball, pickleball, volleyball, badminton, indoor soccer; all ages learn-to programs; open gym sessions
• Youth: drop-in youth centre; programs; youth nights; events
• Arena: lessons; public skate sessions; dry floor programming
• Arts: visual arts; dance; music; hand-building pottery
• Early years: licensed preschool; parent and tot programs; ‘on my own’ programs
• Camps: full-day camps; specialty camps (sport, cooking, skateboarding, art)
• Social programs: cards; games; cooking; babysitter and home alone courses

Fitness and movement programs such as tai chi, yoga, qi gong and Zumba will be offered in outdoor spaces. The fitness centre outdoor deck will host spin, TRX Suspension Training and other fitness classes.

The community kitchen will be home to cultural cooking nights, chef-led classes, children and youth learn-to-cook programs and meal prep/take home food programs. There are also purpose-built spaces for birthday parties, special events and training.

There will be a variety of free and low-cost options, along with financial assistance for those who experience financial barriers to participate. There will also be accessible programming such as adapted swimming lessons and camps with inclusion support workers.

Once the new centre opens, we'll offer try-its and drop-in activities. Regular programming will begin in September. Program offerings will be included in NVRC’s regular seasonal and book-a-visit registration processes. 

With 188,450 square feet, the new centre features:

Arena

• NHL-sized arena with seating for up to 500 spectators that accommodates ice hockey, ringette, sledge hockey, skating, lacrosse, roller hockey & other dry floor activities
   

Aquatics

• Significantly more aquatic space that includes large leisure pool with lazy river, spray features & tot zone; 25m 10-lane lap pool; diving springboards and 3m platform; adult hot area: hot tub, dry sauna, steam room; all-ages hot pool
   

Fitness

• Indoor & outdoor fitness spaces that accommodates cardio, stretch, strength & functional training
   

Gymnasium

• Full-size gymnasium that accommodates basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball & much more
   

Other indoor spaces & features

• Arts space
• Youth spaces
• Early years spaces
• Preschool
• Large atrium & gathering areas

The centre will also showcase public art by Indigenous and local artists, and have a café operated by Nomad Coffee.

Community groups will be able to rent spaces in the centre for meetings, activities and events.

The new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre is located at 130 East 23rd Street, between Lonsdale Avenue and St. Georges Avenue. It is across the street from the former facility, on the north side of East 23rd Street. 

The new centre has a large underground parking structure with 270 parking spaces, including electric vehicle (EV) and accessible stalls.  

The first three hours of parking are free, with additional hours available at $3/hour. Pay parking will be in effect from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week – including statutory holidays, unless otherwise posted.

The parking lot is only for visitors to Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre, Centennial Theatre and Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre. No walk-offs are allowed.

Visitors can also use active transportation by walking, cycling or rolling. There are outdoor bike racks available for centre visitors.

The centre is located near Lonsdale Avenue, which is a busy bus transit corridor. For more information and routes, visit Translink. 

Centennial Theatre, which is operated by NVRC and is the North Shore's largest performing arts centre, is part of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre complex.

Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre will have a new facility adjacent to HJCRC, on the corner of East 23rd Street and St. Georges. The centre is operated by the Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre Society, a non-profit organization.

Harry Jerome and Memorial Community Recreation Centres closed June 27, 2026 to allow staff to move to the new facility.  

Summer camp programs continue to operate out of Memorial Community Recreation Centre until July 31. Dry floor arena rentals continue in the former Harry Jerome arena until August 7. The buildings will be fully closed after these dates.
