New Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre


The City of North Vancouver is building a new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC) in the heart of Central Lonsdale. The new HJCRC is anticipated to open in 2025 and will be located across the street from the existing facility, on the north side of East 23rd Street between Lonsdale Avenue and St. Georges Avenue. 

The new HJCRC embraces the City’s vision of A Healthy City for All, creating a welcoming, vibrant, social heart of the community. Focused on physical and mental health, wellness, inclusion and diversity, the new HJCRC will create a barrier-free, accessible space for everyone to enjoy.

What will be included in the new community recreation centre?
The new community recreation centre will be home to a wide range of new and improved recreational, cultural and green space improvements including:

  • community atrium and gathering areas
  • ice arena with seating for 500 spectators
  • significantly more aquatic space
  • indoor and outdoor fitness spaces
  • full-size gymnasium
  • numerous multipurpose spaces
  • preschool and youth spaces
  • outdoor active/passive areas
  • arts space
  • community kitchen
  • new skate park
  • nature play area
  • a multi-activity court

March 2022 Update - Development Underway

Site preparation begins March 14 at the future home of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC), this exciting project will replace an aging facility at the end of its service life with modern new construction featuring an accessible and sustainable design, and bringing new and improved amenities and spaces for everyone in the community to enjoy. The current Harry Jerome, Memorial, Mickey McDougal Community Recreation Centres and Centennial Theatre will remain open and operating during construction. Construction will take place between spring 2022 and 2025.

Current Activities at Existing Facilities

Harry Jerome, Memorial, Mickey McDougal Community Recreation Centres and Centennial Theatre will remain open and operating during construction.  View the wide range of programs available in our registration system or use our step-by-step Search Activities tool. More recreation and culture options are being added in alignment with public health orders and available staffing resources. Some services previously located at Harry Jerome which serve the wider community, have been relocated to other spaces, including the new Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre

The Lonsdale skate park will be closed from March 28, 2022 for construction to begin.

What to Expect During Construction

As with all construction, some inconvenience can be expected. The City will  do their best to limit the impacts and appreciate your patience. Safety will be the top priority throughout the construction.

Noise management

Work will adhere to City noise bylaws, limiting noise-generating construction to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (not permitted Sunday and holidays).

Site preparation

Norseman Field and the Lonsdale Skate Park will close in March to make way for the new facility, which will include a new skate park. A large, new park will be built as part of an adjacent development in the future. During the site preparation, 86 trees will be removed, to be later replaced with 209 new trees. Traffic and roadwork

Roadwork around the facility will take place periodically and temporary road closures may be required. Signs will be posted to indicate detours and updates will be posted at Whenever possible, construction traffic will use the Highway #1 on/off ramp and trade contractors will park on-site.


Public parking on the construction grounds closed in March 2022. A limited number of parking spots are available in the area nearby.
