New Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre

New HJCRC

December 2021 Update - Harry Jerome Centre to Remain Open

The City of North Vancouver is required to restructure the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre project and the redevelopment of the surrounding Neighbourhood Lands. This will allow the current Harry Jerome facility to remain open while the new recreation centre moves forward.

The first phase of the Neighbourhood Lands redevelopment is currently underway and includes a rental housing development led by Darwin Properties and Minto Group, as well as a seniors residential care facility led by Sunrise North. The City remains committed to developing this critical piece of public land to add much-needed housing and community services to the neighbourhood and will be considering all procurement options for the phase two lands. Planning and pre-construction work to deliver the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre remains underway. The City is creating a new financing strategy that will allow the recreation centre project to begin construction in 2022 while mitigating financial risk to taxpayers. 2022 Programming at Harry Jerome

Program and service planning for Harry Jerome Community CRC is underway
NVRC staff are well into the process of planning the programs and services that will be offered at HJCRC in 2022. It will take some time for staff to work through the details and finalize a staffing plan which requires recruiting additional staff in a challenging labour market. NVRC is also refining a building maintenance plan in an effort to keep these facilities operating as well as possible as long as possible. We have asked the community and our customers to be patient as we take a phased approach to offering more programs and services.  Fortunately, there are a wide range of programs and services at other community recreation centres to provide options for all residents.

NVRC is hiring!
NVRC, like many organizations and businesses, is facing staffing shortages in a challenging hiring market.  NVRC is working to recruit additional staff and would like the community’s help to spread the word about the employment opportunities available. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the positions NVRC is hiring for, visit our employment page.
