Salmon Crossing

Artist: Robbins, Philip & Kirsty

Sculpture

First commissioned in 2000, this 30 ft aluminium banner has two distinct sides, both referring in very different ways to traffic and migration patterns.  The green side features local North Shore place names behind a school of salmon laser cut from aluminium and bolted to the banner face.  The red side consists of a similar school of salmon cut from “stop” signs – linking the spawning migration of salmon to the environmental hazards of our busy commuter world.
