Artist Robert Cram was inspired by the native Lion’s Mane fungus (Hericium erinaceus), the form reflects cycles of growth and regeneration—both in nature and in human history. Drawing on layered narratives, from Indigenous place names to colonial reinterpretations and evolving urban development, the work explores how memory is shaped, obscured, and transformed over time. Incorporating references to historic architecture in the original shipyards of North Vancouver area and informal acts like tree carvings along Lonsdale Avenue, the sculpture invites visitors to pause, reflect and connect within these overlapping timelines and consider the ever-changing identity of the site.
