Help plan the future of recreation & sport facilities

Tell us your vision for the future of indoor and outdoor recreation and sport facilities in North Vancouver!

North Vancouver is an active community that boasts a variety of indoor and outdoor sport and recreation facilities. From arenas, pools and gymnasiums to plazas, outdoor courts, fields and parks – just to name a few – the community has many spaces where people can move, create and connect.

The City and District of North Vancouver are looking to the future and preparing for what’s needed in the years ahead to meet the needs of these growing communities. North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is leading the creation of a Recreation & Sport Facility Plan for North Vancouver. The plan will help the City and District make decisions related to the development, maintenance and operation of outdoor and indoor facilities.

Hearing from the community
Engaging with and hearing from residents and interested parties is a key part of the planning process. The community engagement will include a survey of households and residents; a survey of organized groups that use recreation and sport facilities; and, discussion sessions and interviews with a variety of individuals and groups in the community including those who may traditionally not be part of a process like this or who may experience barriers to participation.

“It’s very important that we hear from diverse voices in our community,” says Mike Hunter, NVRC’s Deputy Director, Recreation & Culture and project lead. “We expect to hear from the many people who currently use of sport and recreation facilities in the community, but we also want to hear from people who aren’t using these facilities to understand why, and learn how we can make recreation and sport facilities more relevant, welcoming and accessible for everyone in the community.”

Take the survey
A random sample of households will receive a postcard in late May/early June asking them to participate in a survey. Households that do not receive a postcard will be able to participate in a public survey open to all North Vancouver residents from June 5 to 23.

Link to both surveys will be available at engage.nvrc.ca/facility-planning.

It should take less than 20 minutes to complete and your responses are confidential. The surveys close Friday, June 23, 2023. The survey results, along with other research, will help inform the plan and shape decisions about upgrading existing facilities or building new facilities. The plan is expected to be completed in late 2023.
