Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre marks one year of operations

The staff at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre, along with their partners from Capilano Community Services and North Vancouver District Public Library, are celebrating one year since they first started offering programs and services to the community.

Located in the heart of the new Lions Gate Village, Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre has become a hub for local residents offering drop-in and registered programs in art, sport, fitness and cooking. The centre features a full-size gymnasium, art studio, community spaces and meeting rooms, ‘living room’ with comfortable seating and wi-fi, and community kitchen.

Drop-in programs include parent-and-tot playtimes; open gym time; low-cost wellness classes; fitness classes including cardio, bootcamp, yoga and TRX suspension training; badminton; pickleball; basketball; and volleyball.

Registered programs include babysitter training, cooking, dance, Zumba, martial arts and karate, barre fitness, pilates, pickleball, TRX training, basketball, soccer skills, drawing, mixed media art, painting, print making and yoga.

Capilano Community Services offers a variety of programs and activities for families, children, youth and seniors. The centre is also home to the Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) for the North Shore which provides free, short-term loans of medical equipment to community members.

North Vancouver District Public Library's (NVDPL) express library at LGCRC is a boutique library service featuring a collection of new and popular materials, and a holds pick-up locker that allows patrons to request materials from any NVDPL location and conveniently pick them up at LGCRC. NVDPL also holds library programs and events at the centre.

If you haven’t yet had an opportunity to visit the centre, come by for a visit, sign-up for a drop-in or registered program, visit the express library or hang out in the living room. It is easily reachable by public transit or active transportation for local residents, and there is free underground parking including electric car charging stations for vehicles.
