Inspired by the shipbuilding history of North Vancouver and referencing the changes that have occurred in the harbour over the last 135 years, Listing consists of a series of steel and concrete forms clad in glass tile. The signature piece at the corner of Esplanade and Semisch Avenues evokes the hulls of ships in drydock.
Set into the landscaping running up Semisch Avenue, a series of 2 foot in diameter, steel, circular forms clad in glass with kiln fired images tells the story from a time before contact to the industrial activity that is now a part of North Vancouver’s history. At the corner of Semisch Avenue and West 1st Street a viewing scope points toward Waterfront Park and the Harbour beyond.
‘Listing’ is the nautical term for a ship off balance, in danger of capsizing.
