Woodworking Joinery Foundations Level 2

Please see registration notes for important information. No refunds within 7 days of the program start date. Must complete Level 1 or have permission from the instructor to attend.

After having completed Woodworking Level 1 or Woodworking Basics kick it up a notch by adding some sophistication to your woodworking repertoire learning foundation skills in joinery. We encourage a hybrid approach to woodworking by using power tools for the dimensioning and hand tools to refine your joinery and surfaces. Students registering for this course must have completed Level 1 or demonstrate prior skills by presenting a personal portfolio of applicable work. Topics covered as follows: 1: Design 101 - student designs own project with instructor guidance and approval. 2: Review lumber classifications and design for seasonal movement. 3: Introduction to Hand Tools including sharpening. 4: Intermediate Joinery methods. 5: Determining the amount of lumber needed to complete the design. 6: Buying lumber from a commercial supplier.
Project may be limited in size due to space in the studio.
Students should bring their own lumber after the first session. Students are encouraged to bring their own hand tools such as marking gauges, chisels, squares, rules and planes. Bring pencil, notebook and ¼” square graph paper. Check with www.urbanwoodworker.com for more information.
