Caribbean Days Festival

Celebrations & Events Grants support small and large scale events that foster community connection and that contribute to residents’ quality of life and sense of identity; the program seeks to sustain and encourage growth in existing events and to support the development of new events.

Application Materials

Applications to the Celebrations & Events Grants Program are accepted in three categories:

A. Community Events

PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Please read the Program Guidelines for Community Events Grants before considering the application.

Community Events are typically single-day events at a local neighbourhood scale.  Funding supports events that promote community connection and that contribute to residents' sense of belonging, identty and place. 

Grants are available up to a maximum of $4,500 or up to 40% of the proposed event budget.  Matching funds can be a combination of cash and in-kind contributions.  In-kind contributions are limited to 25% of the overall budget.

EXAMPLES OF FUNDED EVENTS:

Examples of community events that have received funding in recent years include:

  • Blueridge Good Neighbour Day
  • Deep Cove Daze
  • Osprey Festival
  • N'chemus Day (Slahal Festival)
  • CityFest
  • North Shore Folk Fest
  • Pride at the Pier
B. Major Celebrations *

PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Please read the Program Guidelines for Major Celebrations before considering the application.

Major Celebrations are large single and multi-day events at a regional scale - events and festivals that present a significant program of cultural activities and entertainments and that serve a regional aufience from around the North Shore, metro Vancouver and farther afield.  Grants are available up to a maximum of $12,500 (for one-day events) and $17,500 (for multi-day events) OR up to 30% of the proposed event budget.  Matching funds can be a combination of cash and in-kind contributions.  In-kind contributions are limited to 20% of the overall budget.

EXAMPLES OF FUNDED EVENTS:
Examples of major celebrations that have received funding in recent years include:

  • Caribbean Days
  • Philippine Days
     
  • Coho Festival
  • Polish Festival Vancouver

* At the recommendation of the Grants Committee, grant awards may be approved for up to three (3) years.

C. Arts Festivals *

PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Please read the Program Guidelines for Arts Festivals before considering the application.

Arts Festivals present a coordinated program of artistically connected activities, exhibits or performances over a relatively compact schedule of events.  Grants are available up to a maximum of $18,500 or up to 30% of the proposed event budget.  Matching funds can be a combination of cash and in-kind contributions.  In-kind contributions are limited to 20% of the overall budget.

  • Artists for Conservation
  • Tabestoon Festival of Contemporary Iranian Art
  • Blueridge Chamber Music Festival
  • Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival

Program Guidelines

The Program Guidelines provide important program information including but not restricted to: eligibility considerations, guidance on available funding streams and submission processes, evaluation and review criteria, as well as annual reporting requirements.  Groups and/or organizations that are considering submitting an application to the Celebrations & Events Grants  Program are strongly encouraged to consult the Guidelines and to contact the Grants Officer before submitting an application.

Program Eligibility

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the Program Guidelines and/or to contact the Grants Officer before submitting an application. Eligible Applicants include:

  • registered not-for-profit arts and culture organizations, including multi-cultural and ethno-cultural organizations

  • other recognized arts groups

  • community service groups

  • community associations; merchants’ associations or business improvement associations

  • charitable organizations, and

  • other recognized community groups
