Celebrations & Events Grants

Celebrations & Events Grants support both small and large scale events that do so much to foster community connection and that contribute to residents’ quality of life and sense of identity; the program seeks to sustain and encourage growth in existing events and to support the development of new events.
 

Grant Availability

The application window for the 2019 Early Intake of Celebrations & Events Grants will open onThursday September 20, 2018.  The deadline for grant submissions will be October 15, 2018.
 

Celebrations & Events Grants Guidelines

The Celebrations & Events Grants Guidelines provide important program information including but not restricted to: eligibility considerations, guidance on application categories and submission processes, evaluation and review criteria, as well as annual reporting requirements.  Groups and/or organizations that are considering submitting an application to the Celebrations & Events Grants  Program are strongly encouraged to consult the Guidelines and to contact the Grants Officer before submitting an application. 
 

Application Materials

 Application Forms are available as both a MS Word document or an Adobe fillable form.  Applications to the Celebrations & Events Grants Program are accepted in three categories:

1. Community Events

Community Events are typically but not exclusively single-day events that encourage congregation, foster connection and evoke a sense of celebration.  In order to qualify for support, events:

  • must be inclusive, welcoming and entertaining
  • must express the diversity and uniqueness of our communities
  • should provide opportunities for local talent
     

Grants are available up to a maximum of $6,500.

2. Major Cultural Celebrations

Major Cultural Celebrations are often but not exclusively multi-day events that present a significant program of cultural activities and entertainments.  Cultural Celebrations may mix arts and cultural programming with other cultural attractions, entertainments, demonstrations and other activities to create a full event or festival program.  In order to qualify for support, events:

  • must be inclusive, welcoming and entertaining
  • must express the diversity and uniqueness of our communities
  • should have a significant established audience, or be able to show clear potential for audience development
  • should offer participants and audiences an opportunity to enjoy performances and activities that are unique to the character of the event and that are not duplicated by other organizations and their activities.
     

Grants are available up to a maximum of $20,000.

 

3. Arts Festivals

Arts Festivals present a coordinated program of artistically connected activities, exhibits or performances over a relatively compact schedule of events.  In order to qualify for support, arts festivals should:

  • be innovative and entertaining, fostering appreciation of arts and culture, heritage and other creative pursuits
  • inspire awareness of local and visiting talent
  • should generate a positive community and media profile
  • should offer participants and audiences a relatively unique experience not duplicated by other organizations and their activities
     

Grants are available up to a maximum of $17,500

 

 

Multi-Year Support

At the recommendation of the Grants Committee, grant awards in the Major Cultural Celebrations and Arts Festivals categories may be approved for up to three (3) years.
 

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants include:

  • registered not-for-profit arts and culture organizations
  • other recognized arts groups
  • community service groups
  • community associations; merchants’ associations or business improvement associations
  • multi-cultural and ethno-cultural organizations
  • charitable organizations, and
  • other recognized community groups
